A Juneteenth Love Letter: Beauty, Liberation & the Power of Representation

Today is Juneteenth - a day of reflection, celebration, and deep gratitude. As I write this, I’m thinking about what freedom means beyond history books. For me, it’s the freedom to be soft, to rest, and to care for ourselves and each other. It’s also the freedom for BIPOC individuals to take up space, especially in industries not originally built with them in mind.

At ITP Beauty, 2 out of our 3 partners are BIPOC. That’s not just a diversity box we check - it’s who we are. And today, that matters even more. Juneteenth is about honoring the generations who made space and using that space to amplify voices and visions that deserve to shine.

In that spirit, I want to share three BIPOC-led brands doing beautiful, impactful work. They are grounded in transparency, care, and love for community - the same values we pour into every bottle of Daily Bawse.

Let’s start with Adrienne Maree Brown, an author and activist making waves. Her books Pleasure Activism and Emergent Strategy have transformed how I move through the world. Adrienne reminds us that care is a political act and pleasure is a form of liberation. She defines emergent strategy as “strategy for building complex patterns and systems of change through relatively small interactions.” Her work inspires deeper thought about daily interactions and their potential impact on people as a whole.

Next is Proudly, co-founded by Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade - a babycare line made for melanated skin and EWG Verified (just like us!). Proudly is gentle, clean, and built with intention for families seeking better, safer, and transparent babycare. Their work shows that clean beauty doesn’t have to feel clinical - it can be soulful, culturally rich, and deeply rooted in love.

And then there’s Donna’s Recipe, the plant-based haircare brand created by the one and only Tabitha Brown. Every product feels like an extension of her spirit - nurturing, vibrant, and deeply intentional. From hair oils to scalp drops, Donna’s Recipe celebrates natural hair textures with clean, nourishing ingredients. It’s a reminder that every crown deserves the same love and attention given to the rest of the body.

These brands, like ITP, are doing more than selling products. They offer a new vision of care - one that honors identity rather than erases it. They prove that clean beauty can represent all of us.

So this Juneteenth, my hope is that you’ll celebrate with intention: support BIPOC brands, take time for stillness, read something that feeds your soul (Pleasure Activism is a good start), and smear on your favorite serum or gloss. Remember, your skin, your story, your joy - it all matters.

From all of us at ITP Beauty, thank you for walking with us on this journey. We see you. We celebrate you. And we’re so glad you’re here.

X Oni~
