Clean Beauty & Skincare: Why What You Put on Your Skin Matters

September is National Skin Care Awareness Month, and while skincare is often talked about in terms of glowing skin, hydration, and anti-aging, we believe there’s another important part of the conversation: knowing what you’re putting on your skin. At ITP Beauty, we believe consumer education is just as important as creating high-performing products people genuinely love. Clean beauty shouldn’t be about fear, confusion, or memorizing an endless list of ingredients. It should be about having better information, meaningful standards, and products you can feel good about using every day.

We’re exposed to chemicals every day through the food we eat, the packaging we use, the products we apply, and the environments we live in. Sometimes, the conversation around chemical exposure can feel overwhelming—or downright scary. But there’s an important part of the conversation that often gets lost: you don’t have to change everything to make more thoughtful choices.

A recent study published in Nature Medicine looked at exposure to plastic-associated chemicals, including phthalates and bisphenols such as BPA. Researchers found detectable levels of at least six plastic-associated chemicals in all participants in the observational cohort. The study also examined whether reducing plastic exposure could change urinary levels of these chemicals. The really interesting part? The seven-day intervention produced measurable reductions in several urinary plastic-associated chemicals. In one intervention group, BPA decreased by nearly 60%, while certain phthalate metabolites also declined. Seven days! Our bodies basically said, “Oh, we’re reducing our exposure? Cool.”

Of course, this doesn’t mean that avoiding plastic for seven days will suddenly make us “chemical-free.” And the study wasn’t designed to prove that reducing these exposures directly prevents disease. But it does reinforce an important idea: some everyday exposures are modifiable, and relatively small changes can make a measurable difference.

And here’s where beauty enters the conversation. Think about your daily beauty routine: cleanser, serum, moisturizer, SPF, makeup, lip products, hair products, body lotion, maybe fragrance. For many of us, personal-care products are part of our everyday lives, sometimes involving dozens of individual products and repeated use. That doesn’t mean every ingredient in your bathroom is harmful, and it certainly doesn’t mean you should panic and throw away everything you own. It means what we use repeatedly is worth paying attention to.

The Nature Medicine study is particularly interesting because researchers didn’t only look at food and kitchenware. One intervention also replaced conventional personal-care products with low-plastic alternatives, and researchers observed a reduction in urinary mono-n-butyl phthalate in that group. It’s one more reason we believe ingredient transparency in beauty matters.

This is where ITP Beauty’s philosophy comes in. We created ITP because we wanted to make clean beauty easier to navigate—not another thing for you to stress about. Our approach is simple: high-performing beauty products, thoughtfully formulated, with meaningful standards behind them.

Our hero product, Daily Bawse, is an EWG-Verified tinted mineral SPF serum that combines skincare, sun protection, and a natural glow in one step. It’s formulated with non-nano zinc oxide, hyaluronic acid, peptides, moisturizing technology, and radish root. The result is hydration, barrier support, and a glowy, inclusive finish designed to blend across skin tones without a white cast. And because we’re all busy, Daily Bawse was created to replace several steps in your routine—helping simplify your beauty routine without asking you to compromise on performance.

That’s what clean skincare should feel like to us: uncomplicated. Not a bathroom full of products, not an ingredient dictionary, and not fear every time you pick up a bottle. Just better-informed choices.

One of the biggest problems with clean beauty is that the term itself can mean different things to different brands. That’s why third-party standards matter. ITP Beauty is EWG-Verified, BCPP Safe, and CertClean award-winning. We work with organizations that are helping push the beauty industry toward greater transparency and stronger standards because consumers shouldn’t have to do all of the research themselves. For us, verification isn’t about putting another badge on a bottle. It’s about doing more of the work before the product ever reaches your bathroom.

It’s easy to read about chemical exposure and immediately feel like you need to overhaul your entire life. You don’t. You don’t need to throw away your entire beauty collection, memorize every ingredient, or spend three hours researching every moisturizer before buying it. Start where you can. Read your labels, look for ingredient transparency, research the standards behind the claims brands make, consider third-party certifications, and simplify your routine when it makes sense. Most importantly, choose brands that are willing to tell you what’s in their products—and why.

Because individual choices matter, but consumers shouldn’t have to carry the entire burden alone. We also need an industry that prioritizes transparency and policymakers who create stronger standards and protections. That’s why ITP is proud to work alongside organizations and advocates pushing for meaningful change in beauty and consumer health.

Ultimately, that’s what we’re trying to do at ITP Beauty. We want to make clean beauty feel less complicated. We want you to be able to look at your skincare routine and understand what you’re using without needing a chemistry degree. We want high-performing products that make your life easier—not a 12-step routine that makes it harder. And we want safer, thoughtfully formulated beauty products to become the standard rather than a luxury.

Because what we put in our bodies matters. What we put on them matters, too. And you shouldn’t have to choose between clean ingredients, high performance, and beautiful skin.

That’s the kind of beauty we believe in at ITP.

Clean beauty. Thoughtfully formulated. Made for real life.
